Our world’s run amok. Hatred dominates. Freddie Gray and Michael Brown die at the hands of the police and Baltimore and Ferguson erupt in riots. People loot and burn the property of their neighbors. They turn on their community and make it safe for no one. They create a wasteland that will only promulgate more …[ read more ]

  • The Appetite of Vengeance by Jennifer Slattery: Psalm 103: 6
Posted on Thursday, March 26th, 2015 | Filed under Blog | Tagged: forgiveness, Jennifer Slattery, Ps. 103:6, vengeance

“Vengeance is a monster of appetite, forever bloodthirsty and never filled.” ―  Richelle E. Goodrich ,  The Tarishe Curse   Few wounds hurt as deeply as betrayal. It pains our hearts, shatters our trust, destroys relationships, and most notably, awakens our inner sense of justice. Ah, vengeance! To make the other pay for what they did, or at the very least, …[ read more ]

  • From the Heart: Praying for Forgiveness
Posted on Wednesday, May 4th, 2011 | Filed under Uncategorized | Tagged: forgiveness, prayer

When cut to the quick by those who should have loved us, the pain hurts more than the wounds of a stranger and Jesus certainly understands this more than we. Matt 18:35“This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart.” From your heart…this is not a superficial forgiveness, but a deep, no loop-hole forgiveness. It sounds good, but the Bible doesn’t give us a twelve step program on how to achieve this. Perhaps because each …[ read more ]

    • Your Past Can Be Forgiven: Rahab

@carol_mcclain Is your past unforgiveable? Definitely not. Consider Rahab, one of the ancestors of Jesus, mentioned in Matthew 1:5. She was a prostitute. No one chooses this lifestyle. In ancient Israel, women found few avenues of employment. If unmarried or widowed, they very often had to turn to prostitution in order to survive. Who wants to have non-stop sex with strangers? According to the Shalvi/Hyman Encyclopedia of Jewish Women: [caption id="attachment_2044" align="alignleft" width="200"] No one's fallen so low that God can't redeem.[/caption] "Rahab, who begins as triply marginalized—Canaanite, woman, and prostitute—moves to the center as bearer of a divine message… ...[ full story ]
